This past weekend I decided to try my hand at a lino print with a slightly more complicated design. I didn’t keep track of the exact number of hours I put into it but it definitely took me the longest of the ones I have created so far. I love that I was able to experiment on this one and see the different carving techniques and how they transferred to the print. I took some photos and videos throughout just in case anyone is curious about the process.
What l have learned so far:
I’m finding that creating these prints is a pleasant distraction, sometimes an hour or two goes by but I feel like I’ve only been working on it for a few minutes. Creating any form of art is hands on but this one seems even more in depth to me, kind of partial to it.
The video begins with a rough sketch on tracing paper that I then transferred to the block, followed by a few stages of carving. After that, the first bit of paint is rolled on the block, a baren is used to rub the paper onto the inked block and the print is revealed. I even got to play around with printing in color gradients.
